Hi, I’m Betsy
I am the owner, Betsy Maddin, Licensed Veterinary Technician with 25 years of clinical experience. I created Rainier’s Retreat for those of us who prefer to leave our pets with friends or family versus a big boarding facility. I feel that most animals are less stressed this way, and that in turn allows their people to be less stressed and enjoy their trips more. Rainier’s Retreat is kennel-free, though crates are available if your pet prefers one. Your dog is treated like family here, welcome in the house and the peaceful fenced yard to rest and play.
Some background on my pets:
Rainier, also known as Raini, is a rescued Great Pyrenees mix, born in the spring of 2022. She has a very outgoing personality and loves everyone she meets. She is even more excited than I am for your dog to come and stay with us!
Ted and Keeley are littermates, born in the fall of 2021, and rescued shortly after. Keeley is a bit shy and may take a minute to warm up, but Ted will likely meet you at the door with Raini.
Testimonials
“Betsy’s true compassionate heart for animals combined with her skills and wisdom as a licensed veterinary technician make her a wonderful and excellent caretaker and caregiver of companion and family member pets. She treats all pets and animals with love and respect, and truly cares for their well being, health, and safety. I trust her with my own pets without any reserve or hesitation.”

“Betsy has taken care of my dogs on many occasions. Not only was she extremely professional, but she gave my dogs so much attention and care. I also felt very comfortable leaving them with a professional that was better able to pick up on health issues my dogs experienced. Having both a kind and professional dog sitter really put my mind at ease.”

“My dog loves Betsy. Her dog retreat is relaxing and perfect for Natty while I’m out of town. She is knowledgeable about animals and is attentative to their needs. I would not leave my dog with anyone else.”

“I met Betsy Maddin as a newly graduated and licensed veterinary technician (LVT). We worked together for many years, and I will always be grateful for that as Betsy guided me and taught me more about being an LVT than all of my schooling ever could. Not only the medical care aspect but, most importantly, the animal care. To this day, I have never met another LVT, or veterinarian for that matter, that has such a gift for comforting and gaining the trust of animals that are in uncomfortable or stressful situations, as often is the case in veterinary clinics. That instinctive connection with animals is, to me, an essential quality for any boarding facility, so I was thrilled when I heard Betsy was opening Rainier’s Retreat because I can think of no one better suited to truly care for and treat other people’s pets as if they were her own. The additional peace of mind that her medical skills and experience as an LVT provide is icing on the cake. I have yet to find a boarding facility that I am comfortable leaving my dogs at while I’m away, particularly as one of them has severe anxiety. I would not hesitate to leave them in Betsy’s care. I mean this quite literally; if we still lived in the same state, I would be planning a vacation right now!”

“I recently boarded my dog, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the experience. Betsy was friendly and attentive, ensuring that my dog felt comfortable and well-cared for throughout the stay. It was clean, well-maintained, and had plenty of space for dogs to play and socialize. I also appreciated the updates and photos provided, which gave me peace of mind while I was away. I highly recommend Rainier’s Retreat to any pet owner in need of a reliable and caring place for their beloved companions.”
